The complexity of the settings.

Torsion is more difficult to install, they require pre-tensioning a certain number of revolutions. If this is not done, in the future, the cable may fly off the drums. But correctly configured, they work smoothly, quietly and for a long time.

The tensile springs in terms of opening requirements differ favorably. It’s easy to assemble them, they are less sensitive to the curvature of the opening, but they work noisily. However, this is a garage, not a conservatory.


Both torsion and tension require periodic monitoring, mainly over the condition of the cables, since a break in them is fraught with jamming or even falling of the web (if you are “lucky” and both cables break). During operation, the springs get tired and stop lifting the blade. In this case, the torsion can be tightened, and they will serve more. With tension springs this will not work, they will have to be replaced with new ones.


What dangers await the user of automatic gates? The first is a spring break at which the door leaf will fall. With a weight of 100 kg, it is not very nice. In this case, both the extension and the torsion bars have an answer. Above in the text we mentioned that there are not two, but four springs. Requirements for the opening.

The tension mechanism has one big advantage over torsion mechanisms. They need very little space above the opening for installation. Without a drive, only 100mm is needed, with a 125mm drive.

Torsion mechanisms already require 210 mm above the opening, and if it is an industrial door, then as much as 410 mm, with standard installation.

If there is not enough space above the aperture, and torsion gears need to be delivered before the cut, apply low installation when the shaft with springs is located behind, in the depth of the garage. In this case, the lintel (distance from the top of the opening to the ceiling. - approx. ed.) should be the same 100 and 125 mm, for manual and automatic lifting, respectively. But for this type of installation will have to fork out (+ 5% to the cost of the product).
