Despite the fact that repairing a mosquito net in terms of replacing the canvas is not so expensive, a video on how to change the grid on a mosquito net yourself (sorry for the tautology) is gaining tens of thousands of views. If you decide to do without our help (see the section "Replacing the canvas"), we will tell you how to properly drag the mosquito net yourself. Perhaps by the end of the reading you will realize that saving a few hundred rubles does not make sense and it is better to turn to specialists. Or maybe you can do just fine - replace the mosquito net so that the mosquito of the nose does not tarnish, and discover the hitherto unknown talent.

So, to replace the grid, you will need:

1. New mosquito net of the right size with allowances of 3-5 cm on the sides
Advice! Buy a mosquito! That is, a special mosquito cloth (as a rule, it is gray, the standard mesh size is 1x1 mm). You can purchase it in our online store. Mosquito nets (even the most ordinary ones) are distinguished from ordinary mesh paintings by increased strength, elasticity and durability.
Life hack! The mosquito can not only be repaired by dragging the canvas, but also modernized by replacing the usual grid with the Antikoshka grid
2. A seaming roller for seaming a sealing cord (if it is not there, but most often it is not, then as an alternative you can use improvised items like a screwdriver, scissors with wide arms for your fingers and any other semicircular device)
3. Sealing cord (as a rule, the old one is used, therefore it must be removed carefully)
4. Scissors (to cut the canvas according to the size of the mesh structure)
5. A clerical knife or a knife with a retractable blade (to cut the sticking out remnants of the mesh)

How to replace a mosquito net yourself

1. Remove the mosquito from the window and lay it on the floor (or a large table)
The grid should lie on a horizontal surface all without drooping, otherwise you can break the plastic frame.

2. Remove the sealing cord that holds the net in the structure
Do this as carefully as possible if you want to use the cord again.

3. Remove the old canvas (or what is left of it after numerous repairs or bird "mosquito robbery")

4. Replace the mosquito net, placing in place of the old new one with 3-5 cm allowances on each side

5. Tamp the sealing cord back into the grooves.
This is perhaps the most difficult stage of the repair work, requiring skill and patience. Pulling the cord back into the grooves is quite difficult, especially without a special seaming roller. Despite the fact that the video is available for sale, in reality not many people have it (as unnecessary). Therefore, it is likely that the first time you can’t replace the grid on the mosquito net. Only in the video do-it-yourself mosquito net repair is shown without a hitch. As they say: it was smooth on paper ... But, nevertheless, having trained, many cope with this task.

When tamping the seal, it is important to consider the moment of tension of the blade. It should not be overtightened, otherwise it will either tear or disrupt the geometry of the structure. But it should not sag and “wrinkle”.

6. Trim the remaining remnants of the mesh
Congratulations! If you coped with the previous stage, then it’s almost in the hat! And you can even not watch a video about repairing a mosquito net with your own hands. Carefully cut off excess fabric flush with the profile so that it does not stick out and does not spoil the appearance of the structure.

7. Set the grid to the window
Praise yourself: well done, you saved money. And popular wisdom says: saved - count earned.

Cons of self-replacement mosquito net

No matter how detailed the video on how to change a mosquito net on a plastic window, no matter how detailed the text instructions are, replacing a mosquito net with your own hands often fails. The most common reason for this is the wrong stretch of the canvas.

As mentioned above, it is either overtightened and makes a parallelogram out of the rectangular frame, or sags and wrinkles, or even breaks at the stage of compacting the seal. In addition, in search of an answer to the question of how to change a mosquito net on a plastic window, and a suitable video, many lose sight of the condition of the connecting corners and fasteners (brackets), which may also need to be replaced. And if they require replacement, is it worth chasing small savings, wasting time and effort? Isn’t it easier in this case to replace the whole grid and buy a new one? Moreover, at home, factory quality still can not be achieved.

If you still decide to drag the net yourself, follow our instructions and watch a video on how to properly replace a mosquito cloth.

Purpose and types of structures

A screen, it would seem, has long been outdated and not stylish interior decoration item. The longing of many for standard designs is understandable, since with this design many tasks that were especially obvious in the areas of small apartments were previously solved. So designers and many needlewomen gave the screen a new second life, as it complements a comfortable pastime in their own lives:

  1. The design allows you to subdivide the space of any room into any zones of similar purpose without repair work of the capital plan. For example, to protect the dining area from the kitchen with a compatible layout of the area. And to separate the space of the bedroom from the dressing area.
  2. Decorate the interior in certain stylistic directions.
  3. Combine or zone spaces for various purposes based on needs.
  4. In open areas, for example, on the veranda or balcony, the screen can serve as an excellent shelter from sunlight or the breeze.

As it has already become clear, the detail in question in the interior can serve as a decorative component in the formation of the style of the room, and create a more functional area with respect to needs.
As for the construct of typical products, the screens can be:

  • Flexible products that are allowed to bend in different directions, allocating space for work or reading,
  • Single-screen constructions designed and used mainly in dressing rooms. Typical products have the form of a screen placed on one leaf, reinforced frame.
  • Sash products, consisting of several reunited elements, opening or closing by means of permanently installed hinged canopies intended for lightweight structures. Both the size of the decorative structure and the total number of flaps may differ from the set zoning and configuration goals.
  • Frames and placeholders

To recreate a reliable and durable design, it is worth taking care of the correct selection of the frame of the future screen. In the classic form, a frame created from a small section beam is used as a frame. So you can recreate several identical frames (equal with respect to width and height) and connect them using furniture hinges.
Provided that the screen will serve as a more decorative element in the room, frames from vines or bamboo are used to recreate the frame. Modern models suggest the use of a frame made of any metal or aluminum, which is in perfect harmony with glass or polymer panels. For aesthetic decoration of screens, LED backlight strips are often used.
A variety of materials can be used as paneling for screens, fortunately, the choice at the moment is great in stores. The choice of this or that material depends on the planned configuration and type of partition.

That is, whether the screen will be deaf or transparent or combined type. Sashes can be made translucent, covering the frame with guipure fabrics, deaf and so on, which depends on imagination and wishes. Making a screen with your own hands does not seem to be a difficult task, so it’s worth considering several options for home-made designs.

    Fabric partition

In order to make a fabric screen, it is worth getting the following material:

    1. Wooden boards for the frame (the size is selected individually, depending on the wishes and monumentality of the product),
    2. Sanding paper
    3. Varnish or paint,
    4. Fabric in a certain amount, depending on the size of the structure and the thread of a suitable color,
    5. Hand saw, screwdriver, cutter, screwdriver and hinges.

Approximately 4 doors can be made:

  • From 8 boards, 4 leaves are assembled by measuring and cutting the desired length,
  • The fabric is cut into 4 panels of the desired size, the edges of the fabric are processed and the fabric ironed. The rest of the fabric will go to small ties.
  • The screen is assembled on a flat surface, making sure that the dimensions of the wings are the same, twist the slats together with self-tapping screws. After that, the frame is painted and dried. Next is the sash assembled together using furniture hinges.

It is recommended to install the loops in such a way that the canvases move freely with each other when closing. The hinges are set so that the inner canvases fold forward and the two side can be folded back. The fastening of the loops should be done at a distance of 25 cm from the bottom of the frame and top.
The material is fixed on the frame base using ties that will be made from scraps of fabric. On the upper parts of the fabric ties it is recommended to sew more (about a couple of pieces) than at the bottom. That's all, the screen is ready with your own hands.

    Old door construction

A monumental screen from the old door leaves can be made of three parts, for which you will need to stock up:

  • 3 leaf doors
  • 6 pieces of loops,
  • Screwdriver,
  • Primer, brush and paint.

To begin with, the doors should be flushed with dirt, because often old doors are used for these purposes. Next, two canvases are reunited with three of six loops. Before fixing the canvas, it is worth making sure that both wings are on the same level. Next joins the third wing.
It is worth noting that if the picture or any fragments on the canvases do not match, then this fact is even on hand. The main thing is that in the lower part of the canvas are on the same level without distortions after joining loops.
In order to hide many flaws of old surfaces, it is recommended that the canvas be primed and painted over. The sides of the doors can be painted in different colors, paying attention to the ends of the paintings, which will be visible in one direction or another, depending on the location and installation of the screen.

It is permissible to create a standard design from boards of acceptable width, which in the same way are reunited with each other. The surfaces of prepared boards can be decorated with wallpaper that “put” on the glue or treated with decoupage technique, which is described in one of the articles on this portal.

    Cardboard interior decor

Currently, many portals are filled with recommendations for self-production of screens from ordinary cardboard. There are complex manipulations in this regard, but there are also very simple recommendations, on the imagination of which the appearance and aesthetics of such a useful product depend.
Many offer to decorate cardboard screens of photos from the personal archive, if the design is to become a blank canvas.
So many proposals come down to decorative slots in cardboard sashes. It will depend on the color of the painted structure and whether the interior decor in the room will play or not.

    Mosquito nets

Oddly enough, an elegant and simple device, a mosquito net on magnets, appeared relatively recently, although the idea of using a magnet to close the door tightly has long been used in refrigerators.

Perhaps some of our unknown craftsmen in their workshop or at the cottage adapted magnets for such a matter much earlier than the mass production of similar protective flaps.

But it’s becoming commonplace that the introduction of even the simplest device goes through Western companies, and the mass flow of goods is of Chinese origin.

In many cases, apart from air-conditioned rooms, such a thing in the doors is generally not needed - it is enough, if necessary, to put a mosquito net on the windows.

In the doorway, on the other side of the box, you can hang a hinged frame on the hinges. But such a design will not be rigid enough and sooner or later may skew.

You can avoid this by reinforcing the frame with slopes and finally ruining the appearance. And, in addition, even a very neat design will leave traces in the door frame in the form of hinges from the frame unnecessary in winter.

There is a simpler option that does not leave any marks for the winter.

    Mosquito net

The Magic Mesh Kit, designed for a standard doorway, includes:

    • Instruction
    • 2 wings.
    • 18 magnets or 2 magnetic tapes.
    • 20 buttons.
    • 12 Velcro.
    • Lambrequin for white and black wings.

Other models may differ in the shape of the magnetic fastener, for example, in the form of a solid magnetic tape and an even more convenient way of fastening. Canvas curtains can be selected by color and pattern. It is made of fiberglass, cotton or high-strength nylon.

Curtains and plastic weighting agents are resistant to wet environments and mechanical stresses.

Such insect protection is universal and convenient:

    • It passes air well, holding in addition to insects pollen, fluff and light garbage.
    • It is easy to wash a soft grid, using various detergents.
    • The flaps open very easily, even when both hands are busy.
    • Such a transparent door closes almost silently.
    • Magnets are excellent closers without requiring any action to close the sashes.
    • Dogs and cats easily pass through such a fence.
    • Sashes open easily, but do not open spontaneously from a draft.

The cost of such blinds on a standard door, depending on the manufacturer, can differ several times and starts from 250 rubles.

Installation of mosquito curtains on the door

To reliably and tightly close the magnetic flaps, they should hang freely, without touching the floor, with a small 2-3 mm gap. If the magnetic fastener is made in the form of a tape, then it is better to stretch it on the floor in advance so that it lies down.

At the ends of the magnetic fasteners that are inserted into the casement, you should trim the corners so that they do not tear the net. At the same time, make sure that the magnetic tape does not twist.

Lay out both flaps with closed magnets on the floor and spread out from creases. Measure the opening of the desired door and fasten the double-sided adhesive tapes to the wings along the corresponding contour. Glue the canvas to the opening.

The ends of the magnetic tape should be nailed to the upper crossbar of the door frame with small nails, otherwise it will gradually slide down, and it is better if the tape does not reach the lower weight magnet about 2 cm and then the net does not rub in this place. There are no such comments in the manual; they appear from users as a result of practical experience.

Then you should check how easily, and securely close the curtains after the passage of a person of any height. For a denser and more secure fastening, you can use the buttons.

To fasten the Unibob brand mesh, the main thing is to determine the size, and then you just have to stick the upper universal fastener, and the thing is almost done.

The dimensions for the narrower opening of the balcony door are easily adjusted. The excess can be wrapped and fastened with Velcro from the kit or just cut off the excess, tuck and sew. If the front door turned out to be wider than the commercially available mesh, then the sashes on the magnets of the desired width can be made by yourself or added to the standard.

    Do-it-yourself mosquito net with magnets

Our meticulous craftsmen offer different options for combating not only small insects, but also dust. They make quite elegant frames with a grid on the balcony doors. And there are specific examples of almost free (except for little work) filters on a plastic sash.

Instead of a mosquito net, one of the craftsmen offers non-woven agrotex with a density of 30 g / m 2, which has an air exchange capacity of about 4000 l / h and its structure is much smaller than that of the net.

The cost of such material is only about 8 rubles per m 2, and to fix it in a frame, a full-time sealing gum https://youtu.be/hJrH93GH33I is enough. For those with windows facing a dusty road or construction site, advice can be very helpful.

For comparison: an expensive grid, which is positioned as anti-dust, does not have such small cells: 0.25 by 1.0 mm, and for some sellers this canvas consists of square cells 0.8 mm in size.

Сделать сетку на магнитах для нестандартной широкой двери можно, купив все необходимое по отдельности. Магнитная лента стоит около 80 рублей за трехметровый рулон, а стоимость сетки шириной в 140 см начинается с 70 рублей за метр. A sewing machine and video on making or even mounting a grid on magnets are enough to quickly and easily do everything yourself.

Pleated mosquito doors differ from compartment doors in that when they are opened there are no parts that go beyond the opening. For self-manufacturing, the main difficulty is that a mobile stand of high height can be skewed when moving.

This design loses all its elegance, if every time you open and close the door you need to monitor the position of this rack. To this disadvantage, the appearance of a threshold due to the lower guide can be added.

Animals, in general, cannot pass through this fence. Such an elegant design, due to manufacturing complexity and possible inconveniences, is found at the cottage much less often than a freely hanging grid with magnets, which anyone can easily install on their own.
